[National Gay & Lesbian Journalists Association benefit report] Kyan Douglas, the former Queer Eye grooming expert, was much more forthcoming about the "lifestyle-oriented" show he is developing. "It's about creating the life you want," he said. Mm-hmm? He elaborated. "You know, take a successful woman, but she's just very busy. She's making a lot of sacrifices in her life, and we're going to step in and help her. It's like a combination Oprah-Supernanny-Dr. Phil-Queer Eye-Extreme Makeover type thing." Queer Eye's Ted Allen was there too, talking about moving to Cobble Hill and how much he loves the neighborhood.

New York Daily News, 10/9/2006
Elsewhere Thursday night, Jimmy Fallon looked out at the packed audience at the Empire State Pride Agenda dinner to raise money for gay political action. [...] But Anne Hathaway (there with her gay brother, Mike), Ed Norton, playwright Tony Kushner, gubernatorial shoo-in Eliot Spitzer, singer Frenchie Davis, Kundalini cutie Kyan Douglas, Sen. Russ Feingold and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn were front and center. Or left of center, as the room buzzed about the Republican coverup of former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley's predilection for pages. Douglas' "Queer Eye" castmate Ted Allen said, "The fact that [Foley] is gay is really a shame, and really tragic for a lot of gay people."

Gay activists often criticize media coverage of gay pride parades, saying, correctly, that the media focus on the extreme, the more flamboyantly feminine men and very masculine women. But that's not us, they say. Most of us are just like everyone else. Are gays just like straights? Or is Hollywood's frequent portrayal of gay men as feminine more accurate? We talked to Carson Kressley and Ted Allen, two of the stars of the hit television show "Queer Eye" about the stereotypes. What, we asked, are the stereotypes about gay men?
"It's that you're obsessed with fashion, and that you tan a lot and that you color your hair," they said. But, says Allen, the stereotypes are not always true. "Not all gay men are superstylish. Not all straight men are bad dressers," he said.
"Whether you work, you know, as an artist or a singer or a dancer, those are all really creative places where gay people are embraced," Kressley said.

Celebs swept like locusts through the Style Villa swag suites at the Bryant Park Hotel, frantically scooping up gift bags from Freeze 2-4/7, the anti-wrinkle cream that freezes muscles and acts as a topical Botox. Among the well-groomed men who jumped at the $150 jars were Carson Kressley, Ted Allen, newly out couple Lance Bass and Reichen Lehmkuhl, and Al - husband of Star Jones-Reynolds.

Two years ago, at a radio and television correspondents' dinner, President Bush quipped that Secretary Rumsfeld's favorite TV show was "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy." At first blush, it seemed odd to suggest that a man who lives by the code of "don't ask, don't tell" could love a program in which gay guys come off as moneyed stars and straight dudes look like clueless clods. But the comment drew plenty of laughter and applause. And President Bush followed up by heaping even more praise on Queer Eye's fashionistas. "My Cabinet could take some pointers from watching that show," the president said. "In fact, I'm going to have the Fab Five do a makeover on Ashcroft."

The Fab Five are back! The hit reality show Queer Eye -- the title's been shortened from Queer Eye For The Straight Guy -- kicks off its fourth season tonight on Bravo. This time, Carson, Kyan, Jai, Ted and Thom are taking their show to Vegas, where we'll see them transform the lives of everyone from a professional poker player, to an injured firefighter, to a fire-eating magician. They'll also work with a gay man, a straight family and a transgendered person. On a personal note, Kyan Douglas tells us that he's just gotten engaged to his partner of two years. Carson Kressley, who became an ordained minister in order to marry a couple in Las Vegas, says he wants to perform Kyan's wedding as well.

The Barnstable Brown Gala -- Louisville's one-night version of Hollywood, complete with paparazzi and shrieking fans -- was a Grammy show in itself that fused country singers and hip-hop artists with old-school rockers. The sold-out party benefited the Barnstable Brown Endowed Chair for Diabetes Research at the University of Kentucky, and was given in memory of Dr. David Brown, Patricia's late husband, who died of the disease. [...] Fashion savant Carson Kressley, of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," proclaimed the Barnstable party -- and Louisville -- his Derby favorites. "People are nicer here, and there's a lot more bourbon," he said. "You just can't go into a bar in New York and say, 'Can I get a mint julep please?'" Jai Rodriguez, Kressley's "Queer Eye" co-star, said Derby actually seems like one big gay bash, an episode of the "Golden Girls" with hats. "There's lots of big hats and fabulous dresses," Carson interjected. "And you should see the ladies, too." Kressley later walked over to Jennifer Love Hewitt's table to tell the actress how stunning she looked in her vintage couture dress, a champagne-colored strapless gown sprinkled with jewels. He also swiped the popular Lachey's placecard from his table and stashed it in his jacket pocket.

By night they're hitting parties like the one thrown by Entertainment Weekly and Matrix Men at the Manor in New York City's West Village. TEEN PEOPLE lifts the velvet rope and takes you inside. [...] Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Food and Wine Conoisseur, Ted Allen, walked the red carpet and showed off his "I Heart NY" T-shirt. Later, the show's Fashion Savant, Carson Kressley showed up and took over Lindsay Lohan's table after the teen star left the party.

“I adore Thom and I love his new haircut,” gushed Susan Shin as she greeted well-groomed Queer Eye Thom Filicia, who hosted the Young Patrons party for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club at Soho House last night. Simply everyone adores Thom, so the room was brimming with beautiful people. Two other Queer Eyes were in the house: Ted Allen and Carson Kressley, sporting a sweater emblazoned with a pot leaf. Perhaps, in a fog, he got lost and meant to attend the screening of Easy Rider downstairs.

The cast of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy have been partying all over town while on a 3-week filming of new shows here. Jai Rodriguez was so “blown away” by the Franco Dragone Le Reve show he watched at Wynn that he called his colleague, fashion savant Carson Kressley to see the show with him- a second time on the same night! “Watching two back to back performances proved I loved it so much. I am going to get all my friends here to see it.” he told the cast backstage. Then Jai also hit the Krave nightclub at the Aladdin with Thom Filicia for another two consecutive nights -- first to film Krave’s diva Larry “Hot Chocolate“ Edwards (pictured) giving a tour of the unique nightspot and dancing with the stars. The boys also unveiled a showing of artist Joni Max’s unique paintings – including her famous Screaming Woman -- on display at ghostbar in the Palms hotel which will be seen as part of the 3 Vegas episodes on Bravo.

The makeover mavens, who got to meet the Mayor at a Caesars Palace welcoming ceremony, are transforming the lives of a fire-eating magician, a renowned poker player, and a fun-loving couple on a fairy tale wedding elopement. The "Eyes" picked Caesars, the Forum Shops, the Jubilee show at Bally's and The Palms for some of their locations. Kressley, who went fishing for shopping money in the Caesars Fountain of the Gods, said, "It's the first time we've made-over a lounge act ... but it's great having the shopping malls open through midnight, 7 days-a-week. I found an Escada gown for the couple who eloped from New York... " The five guys raved about all the dining, entertainment and shopping options on the Strip, and became fast regulars at Sushi Roku in the Caesars Forum Shops returning night after night.

The two Queer Eyes in attendance were not in agreement over seasonal apparel preferences. “Every store is teasing you with the new spring line and you want to start wearing it immediately,” sighed Carson Kressley. “But you look like a jackass in your aqua blue tank top in March.”
“I wore a cashmere turtleneck the other day to a dinner and I thought I was going to spontaneously combust,” Thom Filicia lamented. “I miss my heavy cashmere turtleneck sweaters. They make me look like I’m teaching a class.”

Twin Cities fashion designer Joy Teiken took her creations to New York last week for a Big Apple look-see. Besides a handful of editors and photogs from fashion mags, "Queer Eye" cutup Carson Kressley attended Teiken's Wednesday-night showing at the Soho House New York. Models (whose hair was done by Minneapolis stylist James Peterson) showed about 20 Joynoelle designs, including looks at the couturier's first limited-run collection. More "Queer Eye" talent appeared later in the Soho's bar/restaurant, where interior designer Thom Filicia and a friend were spotted by a dedicated I.W. deputy. Word up: Kressley met/liked Teiken last year at a DIFFA event in Minneapolis.
