Queer Eye. November 22. The Fab Five begin a series of wedding specials and word has it there are some interesting twists involved.

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" designers Jai Rodriguez and Carson Kressley were mixing it up with Oprah Winfrey's resident homemaker, Nate Berkus, at West Hollywood's trendy hotspot, The Abbey, the other day. We hear that they got an advance listen to Barbra Streisand's newest dance single, "Night of My Life," when the diva's longtime manager Marty Ehrlichman cajoled the DJ to spin the song for some crowd reaction.

On June 20th, Friends in Deed honored cosmetics queen Bobbi Brown for her charity work in New York City. Bobbi’s celebratory dinner at Balthazar included a special guest, Queer Eye’s Kyan Douglas, who was so impressed with the makeup guru that he asked her out—on a shoot for his show. Weeks later, Bobbi was taping her first-ever appearance on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, thanks to Kyan himself. The Daily learns that Bobbi appears on an episode in Mooseheart, IL, where she teaches a group of guys grooming and skincare tips. The Moose Men then put Bobbi’s advice to use on a buff calendar shoot for charity. Bobbi’s episode won’t air until January 2006, but viewers needing products for naked calendar shoots right now can try Bobbi Brown’s Buff Creamy Shave Foam, Soothing Face Tonic, Lip Balm, and Protective Face Lotion—the same products the makeup artist used on her subjects during the show.

Polished fashionistas like Jennifer Aniston— who plays a Ralph Lauren staffer on "Friends" — and the makeover crew on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" were singled out for having top tresses in a recent celebrity hair survey. To determine the year's best and worst in hair, Wella conducted unscientific surveys after the MTV Video Music Awards, the Emmys and the American Music Awards. [...] When it came to the men, the Wella results were mixed. Besides the "Queer Eye" cast, "best" hair honors went to stringy-haired rocker Kid Rock and actor Rob Lowe. For worst male hair, respondents singled out Justin Timberlake as the star they'd like to see with longer hair and Tim McGraw and Adam Sandler as the celebrities who should stop hiding their hair under hats.

Hollywood and theater stars were on hand for the 2005 Gay Pride Awards at City Hall on June 23rd, and so was BroadwayWorld! Fran Drescher of The Nanny, Laurel Holloman of The L Word, Kelly Osbourne of The Osbournes, The Fab Five from Queer Eye, Robert Goulet and Gary Beach of the Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles and other entertainers received awards at the event. The "Special Civil Rights Award" is presented to entertainers whose work on behalf of the LGBT community is changing the City, the country, and the world, for the better.

Thom Filicia and Kyan Douglas of the "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fame came, saw and made believers out of a lot of people. Ayala Center brought in the Fab 2 for a series of talks at the Alabang Town Center and Greenbelt Mall, which culminated in a fashion show at the Ayala Museum with SSI co-sponsoring the nights event. I was privileged to spend time with them as well as their managers who told me how surprised they were at the response of the public here. It was their first time to have an event like this outside of the US and they said they would like to come back. Kyan was even asked by a major label here to be its endorser. There are now plans for the Fab 5 of the show to come back in October. I was asked to host the Greenbelt event. Women and men screamed for Kyan. It was a great experience.

Edge Boston, 6/7/2005
Four of the "Fab Five" - Carson Kressley, Jai Rodriguez, Thom Filicia and Kyan Douglas - greeted fans at Club Café Sunday night during an event that packed the popular gay club and witnessed the proclamation of Tuesday, June 7th as "Fab Five" day in the City of Boston. "We’ve never had this warm a reception anywhere," Filicia stated of the exuberant crowd.
For $20 ($40 with gift bag), the public could meet and greet the four stars of the popular Bravo television series "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," whose first-season premiere was shot in the gay-friendly South End not far from the venue on Columbus Avenue. Proceeds from the event went to the Boston Gay Pride Committee and to the Harbor to the Bay Ride, a bicycling event that benefits local AIDS organizations.

The Boston Herald, 6/6/2005
Four of the ``Queer Eye's'' Fab Five flitted into Fenway yesterday to throw out the first pitch and to pitch their Red Sox season-opening makeover set to air tomorrow on Bravo. Carson Kressley, Kyan Douglas and Thom Filicia took the mound in high style before the Sox-Angels match to toss the first pitch. (Ted Allen had a foodie fete elsewhere and Jai Rodriguez did the national anthem honors.) The kings of tszuj were in town to promote the new ``Queer Eye'' season that kicks off tomorrow with makeovers for Johnny Damon, Kevin Millar, Tim Wakefield, Jason Varitek and Doug Mirabelli. After the Sox dispatched the Angels 6-3, the boys had dinner at Mistral then headed next door to Club Cafe in the South End for a fantabulous benefit for Boston Pride and the Harbor to the Bay AIDS Ride. The event was emceed by 7News' openly gay anchorman, Randy Price. Despite sniping in some circles that the boys weren't ``family friendly'' enough for Friendly Fenway, the Fab Four got a warm reception from the crowd - especially Jai's O-Say-Can-You-Sees. "There were a lot of families there who were accepting and fantastic," Carson told the Track. "Boston and the Red Sox welcomed us into their family and could not have been more gracious. I think the whole event was very positive."

The Boston Globe, 6/6/2005
Notwithstanding the rants of some right-wing talk-show types, Boston managed to keep its powder dry yesterday as ''Queer Eye" came to town. The Fab 4 -- foodie Ted Allen was M.I.A. -- drew more cheers than jeers throwing out the first pitch at Fenway, and were high-fived on the way into Club Cafe, where they celebrated the ''Queer Eye" season premiere. (The show, featuring Sox players Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, Kevin Millar, and Doug Mirabelli, airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. on Bravo.) The party, which served as a kickoff for Pride Week, got a late start as the boys took their time noshing gourmet pizzas at Mistral. When their stretch limo finally did arrive, Casson Kressley, Kyan Douglas, Jai Rodriguez, and Thom Filicia stepped out looking, predictably, put together. Rodriguez said the Sox were good sports during filming in Fort Myers, even if ''there were some things they didn't want us to touch." Asked about their reception at Fenway, Douglas said it was friendlier than expected. ''Just when you thought they were going to kick your (expletive), they were like, 'Dude, what should I do with my hair? " On his way into the club, the compulsively campy Kressley, his hair fixed a la Austin Scarlett, announced, ''It's Beantown to Queentown." The gang hung around the party for a few hours, but, taking full advantage of their brief visit to Boston, planned to end the evening at Avalon's gay night. ''We're having a great time," said Douglas.

My friend Dan Kastner (or Danny K), who appeared on The Apprentice, Season 3 [...] started a charity with Big Brothers Big Sisters, called School Bus Rocks, for music programs in public schools. Since I am a friend of Dan's and I am the coordinator of a mentoring program for 12-13 year olds at NYC's PS-111 public school, he asked me to serve on the board. With this as background, and with our attempt to write a book titled "Talking Back To Trump" squashed, Dan was approached Scout Productions and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy to make him over. Dan doesnt need new leisure suits or a haircut, but what he did need was help with his foundation. And so last night, I attended a party for the foundation, co hosted by Queer Eye at The Cutting Room on West 24th Street.

It was an interesting experience. Since so many guests were from reality shows, they all looked sort of familiar. The kids from the Paul Green School of Rock were there (a cute documentary Dan, Gene, and I saw at Sundance), as were some people from The Apprentice. I mentioned to Jai Rodriguez's personal assistant that I would bid $200 for a singing lesson from the forrmer RENT star. Instead I bid $700 for dinner with him and show tix, but that item went for $1200. Thom Felicia was very personable, we chatted about his recent return from a quick whirlwind trip to Manila. Carson, who must have a lot of sugar in his system, was extremely funny, with quick original quips. The Allentown native used a bedazzler to boost Dan's look up a notch.

Considering that Kevin Millar has been off his game since his spring training makeover, the news that Carson Kressley and the ''Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" gang are coming to Boston is cause for concern. The Boston Pride 2005 Committee announced yesterday that the Fab 5 will be at Club Cafe June 5 to celebrate Pride Week and screen excerpts of the ''Queer Eye" season premiere featuring the Sox. (The episode airs June 7.) Aandre Davis, operations director for Pride 2005, said the Bravo boys -- all of 'em except Ted Allen, the food guy -- will be at the Club Cafe bash hosted by Channel 7's Randy price. Since the Sox fly to the West Coast that night, it's unlikely Johnny Damon, Doug Mirabelli, or any of the other preened players can make it, but Davis said some of their wives might. Before the bash, word is Carson, Kyan, Jai and Thom will throw out the first pitch at Fenway, and Jai, who's sung on Broadway, will perform the national anthem.

In a first for the advertising industry, the Commercial Closet Association this spring will launch an awards program exclusively honoring portrayals of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender GLBT) people in mainstream ads, the Commercial Closet Images in Advertising Awards. Set to be presented May 23 in a ceremony at the 2 World Financial Center headquarters (225 Liberty Street) of Merrill Lynch, the Images in Advertising Awards will salute both agencies and clients in categories including the year's Outstanding Commercial, Mainstream Print/Outdoor Ad, and Gay Market Creative. The Images in Advertising Awards will also recognize Outstanding Achievement by an Advertising Industry Professional, according to Commercial Closet founder and executive director Michael Wilke. "It's time to officially recognize people and companies doing outstanding work, the next step of our educational efforts,"Wilke said. "While there are many advertising industry award programs, none focus on sensitivity to a minority. We hope to raise the standard for creative people and their clients." Wilke added that many major advertisers engaged gay and lesbian spokespeople for mainstream ad campaigns in 2004, including Queer Eye for the Straight Guy stars Thom Filicia for Pier One, Kyan Douglas for L'Oreal, and Ellen DeGeneres and Queer Eye producer David Collins for American Express. Douglas and Filicia will be special guests at the Images in Advertising Awards.

Carson Kressley hasn't made it a secret that he has the hots for John Stamos, currently starring in ABC's "Jake in Progress," but at this weekend's GLAAD media awards Stamos had something to say about. He told Kressley, “I’m really flattered. But Kyan is really more my type.”

Worlds collided Thursday night as society met leather go-go boys at R. Couri Hay's birthday at Salon. Sharon Bush, Anthony Haden-Guest, Tatum O'Neal, Lisa Gastineau, Mario Buatta, "Queer Eye" guys Thom Filicia and Jai Rodriguez, Patrick McMullan, Fabian Basabe and Cece Cord all looked even better than usual under Bentley Meeker's lighting. Adding to the atmosphere were Mathew David's posies and Alex Donner's orchestra.

Generous portions of altruistic spirit are on the menu at the third annual Art of Dining on April 15. The event combines food from Atlanta restaurants, one-of-a-kind kitchen items hand decorated by artists and celebrities, and other items to be auctioned off to raise funds for AIDS Survival Project’s support services for people living with HIV and AIDS. [...] One item sure to be popular among bidders is a platter decorated by the cast of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Originally, only grooming guru Kyan Douglas was expected to design a plate, but he rallied his “Queer Eye” mates to participate as well, a move Nixon calls a “delightful surprise.”

AIDS Rochester’s AIDSWalk 2005 isn’t until June 5, but it’s time to think about registering to walk and starting to collect pledges. ARI hopes to surpass last year’s profit of around $85,000, and raise over $90,000 to help people living with AIDS and the area agencies that serve them. Last year, dogs were sponsored walkers for the first time, and this year ARI hopes to double the number of participating canines, according to Marty Gray, Development Coordinator. ARI is excited about the PSAs featuring Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Carson and Thom, which will air the last two weeks of May. “We searched down the producers of the show on Bravo, and they gave us the agency information so we could contact Carson and Thom. They agreed to produce a PSA for us at no charge to us, which was really generous. My only regret is that we can’t get them up here!”
