The Fab 5 were in town recently as a "gift" of the Ayala Malls for their faithful shoppers. Anyone who has watched the "Queer Eye" knows what these fab five gays who unabashedly call themselves "queer" do to make gorgeous guys out of geeks. During the press conference held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel ballroom, they were asked among a zillion other questions what they considered as "sexy." Carson Kressley, the most garrulous of the five and the fashion guru, put it simply — "confidence" such as when you "wear an outfit that makes you feel confident… you also have to smell good." On being sexy in bed, Jai the culture vulture says … "clean your apartment. It’s the first step." That figures … a dirty, smelly apartment is definitely a turn off. Kyan Douglas, the specialist in men’s skin care and grooming, suggests "do special things and take extra steps that you wouldn’t normally do. It’s about the extra effort and making it special for him/her." Ted Allen the food and wine connoisesur has the simplest formula … "Think about what she wants to eat" which may not necessarily mean wine if she doesn’t drink wine or perhaps burgers if that’s what her tastebuds go for. Thom Filicia, the interior decorator, advises "keep (your home decor) personal. It’s about creating an environment that represents you and the people who live there. Follow the way you live." And Filipinos can take a bow! When Thom and Kyan came last year also on invitation of the Ayala malls, they were mighty impressed how the ladies here groomed and dressed themselves. So they urged Jai, Carson and Ted to come see for themselves. In Kyan’s words: "I think that there seems to be a real love for style and a real sense of aesthetic here. There’s a warmth which often, in my experience in American culture, those two qualities don’t go hand in hand. And so it’s a beautiful thing because people here are lovely and warm." Would the Queer Eye do an edition for the "Straight Girl"? According to Kyan, their producers did try it for a season using a different set of gays. "But it didn’t work … I don’t know why. And they closed the show," Kyan said. Which goes to show that it’s the combination of gay hosts to form the perfect "queer eye" like Kyan, Thom, Jai, Ted and Carson, to make gorgeous gals out of straight girls. |
