With the arrival of hot, sticky weather, the key to keeping cool and looking fashionable is wearing the right thing for the season. Star of the hit television series Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, fashion maven Carson Kressley says you can’t fight Mother Nature, so it’s all about dressing appropriately.

“You can’t fight the elements ...,” said Kressley, who was in Toronto promoting the Special K Weight Maintenance Challenge. “There’s a reason why white is a big summer colour — because it’s cooler — so wear that, and wear linen to keep cool too. For ladies, the skirt and the dress is really the item for summer. Use it, it’s so much cooler. I know when I wear a dress, I’m always much cooler in my inner thigh regions.”

It’s not only important to look your best, but to feel your best too. The Special K Weight Maintenance Challenge is for anyone who’s achieved a healthy body weight and wants to maintain it.

So what’s this fashion guru’s advice for looking and feeling great this summer? Kressley says it all comes down to good nutrition, regular exercise and of course, great style. “It’s not about being super skinny or losing lots and lots of weight,” he says. “It’s just about (achieving) a healthy body weight and maintaining it. When you look good and you feel good, you start wearing cuter outfits and you dress better. And before you know it, you’re Prime Minister, or not, or you’re just the manager at the Gap. Either way, it’s a win/win situation.”

He adds: “Fear is the number one motivator that stops guys from looking really, really great. Wearing a pink shirt doesn’t make you gay. Going to Carringtons (night club) every night — that’s a different story.”

Kellogs Press Release, 6/1/2006

Kellogg Canada and Carson Kressley have kicked off the Special K Weight Maintenance Challenge to help Canadians get ready for summer. As a fashion maven and star of the hit television series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Carson understands just how important it is to feel and look your best... it's all about good nutrition, regular exercise and of course, great style!

Special K and Carson have teamed up to show Canadians how to dress for a new healthy body shape. The partnership is a fun and engaging way to bring awareness to Special K's commitment to encouraging Canadians to embrace simple solutions for achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight. The Special K Weight Maintenance Challenge is for anyone who's achieved a healthy body weight and now wants to maintain it. For four weeks, exercise and stay with your balanced diet of low fat foods including Special K cereals every day. Special K cereal is a source of nine essential nutrients, as well as a good source of protein. It is fat free and in combination with a balanced diet and exercise may assist in achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight.

Carson's Tips Jeans - straight leg in dark denim will give you nice straight lines. Avoid those bleached "whiskers" that point attention towards hips and thighs.
It's summer, ditch the black - try nautical navy, chic charcoal or basic brown if you insist on staying with a neutral palette .... or better still ....
Use colour - highlight your best body parts with some colour - a bright aqua jacket will draw attention to your face and those great eyes!
No pleats - they add extra fabric right where you don't want it.
Ditto for pockets at the side of pants that show just how far your hips are stretching the fabric - and cargo pockets are a no-no if you want thicker legs to look skinny.
A-line skirts which fall just below the knee make legs look longer and slimmer.
Horizontal stripes - never!
If you've just achieved your healthy body weight and are used to dressing for a shape 10lbs bigger, stop hiding behind baggy t-shirts or sweats and go find some clothes that fit the new you.
Always dress to fit your current size - don't wear pants that are too big, and don't try to fit into a size 8 if you're still at a 10.
If you feel good you'll look good - it's as simple as that!
