Bravo For The Fab Five

Here's a look at "Queer Eye's" Fab Five:

JAI RODRIGUEZ (Culture Vulture) - Bay Shore native Rodriguez (first name is pronounced "Jay") is an actor, singer and dancer who starred as Angel in"Rent" and played the lead role in the Off-Broadway musical "Zanna, Don't!," which closed in June. He lived with his grandparents until he was 11, then moved in with his mom, who was 20 years older: "So [we were] kind of like siblings and it made for a cool relationship," he said in a phone conversation. Rodriguez went to a performing arts high school - the Cultural Arts Center - in Syosset. "At first I didn't really know what I was going to do. My big fear about Long Island was that I felt like everything my family members had gone into had been [a] success, but there was nothing on Long Island that interested me. I felt like I had conquered Long Island, [but] no one in my family had ever moved out."

Rodriguez, now 24, did: He moved to Manhattan after graduation, and began auditioning, eventually landing a part opposite Hope Davis in the play "Spinning Into Butter" at Lincoln Center. He would also land a singing gig at XL, which he describes as a downtown gay bar/lounge. So what does a "culture vulture" do on the show? "Nothing really," he says. "I infuse whatever is cool or happening into this man's life. What I am on the show is like an elevated version of who I am in real life, full of energy. I don't think I'm terribly flamboyant.... I grew up in an Italian-Puerto Rican family and that was not really an option."

CARSON KRESSLEY (Fashion Savant) - He's the troop leader and the guy with the sharpest banter. A top equestrian, he worked for years for Polo Ralph Lauren, where he was on the design team of the men's sportswear division, and later worked on advertising campaigns for the clothing giant.

TED ALLEN (Food and Wine Connoisseur) - Gotta know the right wine/food for the right occasion, and that's where Ted comes in. He writes a column for Esquire ("Things a Man Should Know") and was a restaurant critic-senior editor for Chicago magazine.

KYAN DOUGLAS (Grooming Guru) - The hair guy. A "colorist," he has also done some work for TLC ("What Not to Wear," "While You Were Out").

THOM FILICIA (Design Doctor) - Filicia runs his own interior design company (Thom Filicia Inc.) and has been named one of House Beautiful's top 100 designers.
